Practice and Pedagogy through Coding, Robotics and Maker Education

August 15-16, 9:00am – 3:oopm

In this two-day, innovative program, K-7 teachers will be introduced to the world of coding, robotics and maker education. Through immersion in creative, hands-on learning experiences participating teachers will have fun, and learn skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and Maker Education. Participants will create, design, prototype and play with new technologies.

By the end of the two days, even teachers with no prior knowledge, will know how to program robots, code to make apps, and use circuits to solve design challenges. This innovative program is designed and facilitated by Dr. Gina Cherkowski; STEM Educator at University of Calgary and Director of Learning at the STEM Learning Lab, and Sava Knezic, STEM Educator and Facilitator.

Connecting with Curricular Change: Innovating Practice and Pedagogy through the Integration of New Technologies and Play in the Elementary Classroom

August 17, 9:00am – 3:oopm

This is a one-day introductory Professional Development session that will introduce K-7 teachers to the world of coding, robotics and technology through immersion in creative, hands-on Maker experiences. Participating teachers play with technology and solve design challenges to gain skills in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and Maker Education.

By the end of the day, teachers with no prior knowledge will know how to build and program a robot, code to make apps that interact with their robot, and design learning experiences using innovative technologies like circuits and robots. This innovative program is designed and facilitated by Dr. Gina Cherkowski; STEM Educator at University of Calgary and Director of Learning at STEM Learning Lab, and Sava Knezic, STEM Educator and Facilitator.
